Adult Advocate Bilingual (preferred)
Salary Range: $50,000 – $55,000/year
Under the supervision of the Executive Director, provide advocacy and support to individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities age 21 through life in the area of self-determination, community resources and public systems.
- Provide advocacy at the local and state level for rights of children and youth with disabilities
- Facilitate communication between family/parent, child, school and/or other public/community agency.
- Resolve and/or escalate issues in a timely fashion.
- Mitigate conflict and communication problems.
- Identify opportunities for improvement and make constructive recommendations for change.
- Serve as a resource to families and relevant communities.
- Maintain the integrity and confidentiality of child and family information.
- Coordinate/facilitate parent training to diverse and different age populations.
- Keep abreast of disability issues, changes within public systems, public law and regulations.
Position Characteristics/Requirements
- Strong oral communication skills (English and Spanish)
- Strong reading and written language skills (English and Spanish)
- Understanding of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act
- Understanding of evaluation and eligibility procedures for community centered board/case management agency
- Understanding and sensitivity to disability issues
- Ability to work effectively with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, parents/families and community agencies
Work Schedule
Full-time employees (advocates for children and advocates for adults) following a non-traditional calendar will accrue 2 (two) hours of PTO each 40 hour pay period. In addition, the employee will be provided 31 Flex days. Paid holidays:

- Thanksgiving Day
Additionally, the following are observed holidays: Winter break (December 24th through January 1st), the day after Thanksgiving, and Helen Keller Day (1st Friday in October).
