Health Care Advocacy News – June 2015

feb-2A big thank you to the National Arc’s HealthMeet Team and the Walmart Foundation!

Health Care Advocacy Program News
Thank you to the National Arc’s HealthMeet Team and the Walmart Foundation:
The Health Care Advocacy Program would like to thank the HealthMeet team, which is part of the Arc of the United States, for inviting us to apply for a grant entitled “Fitness for All” offered by the Walmart Foundation.  We were awarded a $15,000 sub-grant which funds health education classes for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD).  This money specifically goes to providing a program called HealthMatters that teaches people with I/DD simple ways they can better their food choices and eat healthy.  We want to express our gratitude to the HealthMeet staff for believing in us and supporting us through this process!  And thank you to the Walmart Foundation for giving to nonprofits in order to better the lives of others!

The Health Care Advocacy Program has recently started following Oral Health Colorado (OHCO) for updates on relevant legislation. Here are the results of the 2015 session:

  • Governor Hickenlooper signed the budget (SB 234) that included a number of Medicaid provider reimbursement increases for dental services:
  • A 0.5% across-the-board increase for all reimbursement rates, including dental
  • Targeted provider reimbursement increases that apply to:
    • Dental x-ray reimbursement
    • Dental sealants for kids
  • A $15M increase to bring dental reimbursement for fillings and extractions to 65% of Usual and Customary Rates
  • OHCO will continue to monitor and communicate what specific codes are increased and what the new rates will be.  All will be effective on July 1, 2015.
  • Tele-dentistry legislation passed both chambers on the last day of session! HB 1309 was the result of collaborative efforts between the Colorado Dental Association, the Colorado Dental Hygiene Association,  Caring for Colorado Foundation and OHCO.
