Happening this April!

The Health Care Advocacy Program is excited to introduce a separate monthly newsletter edition, “Policy Perspective”, which will feature in-depth interviews with state policy makers on health care and social policy issues which affect our Program’s advocacy efforts. The interviews will be conducted by Catherine Strode, the Program’s former Health Care Advocacy Coordinator.

Happening this April!

 


The Health Care Advocacy Program is excited to introduce a separate monthly newsletter edition, “Policy Perspective”, which will feature in-depth interviews with state policy makers on health care and social policy issues which affect our Program’s advocacy efforts. The interviews will be conducted by Catherine Strode, the Program’s former Health Care Advocacy Coordinator. “Policy Perspective” will hit your inbox for the first time next week. Catherine’s first interview will feature State Representative Dave Young Colorado House District 50.

Alexandra Andrews, Health Care Advocacy Program Coordinator, will be providing a portion of her Staying Healthy presentation, which teaches people with I/DD proper hygiene and ways to boost their immune systems.  Join and learn more about the Health Care Advocacy Program’s series of Health Education Curriculum.
Wellness Committee
April 24, 2:30-3:30 p.m.

The wellness commitee is looking for new members! All those interested are welcome including day program staff, family members, clients, pharmacists, nutritionists, and more.  The committee was developed to assist in implementing new health curriculum, which teaches people with I/DD how to integrate proper nutrition and exercise into their lives.

Contact Alexandra Andrews details about classes that are offered for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  Curriculum topics include: proper hygiene, exercise, nutrition, and diabetes management.

HB 14-1051: Developmental Disability Strategic Plan
On March 14, 2014, Governor John Hickenlooper signed HB14-1051 into law, which strives to eliminate the waitlist for services for people intellectual and developmental disabilities.  This bill was supported by both Democrats and Republicans.  Work will done to develop a strategic plan to eliminate the waitlist for Home and Community Based Services (HCBS).  Colorado will to other states and continue to report to Health Care Policy and Finainace on the number of people on the waitlist on yearly basis.
