Colorado’s Children Experiencing ‘Silent Epidemic’

It’s being called a ‘silent epidemic’ among children here in Colorado and nationwide. It’s a condition that affects physical, behavioral, and social well-being. It’s labeled as the most common chronic disease of children across the country. In an interview with Catherine Strode, Dr. William Bailey, former Chief Dental Officer for the U.S. Public Health Service and a Professor in Early Childhood Caries Prevention at the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine, says tooth decay and oral disease in early childhood is eight times more prevalent than obesity.

Oral Health Colorado Urges ‘Yes’ Vote

An Interview with Catherine Strode

Promoting policies that support oral health for all Coloradans, on the federal, state, and local levels, is the work of Oral Health of Colorado. Currently, the eight-year-old advocacy organization is focused on retaining Denver Water’s policy of water fluoridation. In an interview with Catherine Strode, Executive Director Deborah Foote says the Denver Water Board Commissioners’ upcoming vote, whether or not to continue this policy, is a crucial one for Colorado and for the entire country.

State Senate Candidate Gardner Prescribes Health Care Agenda for Republicans

An Interview with Catherine Strode

Bob GardnerFormer Representative Bob Gardner, R-Colorado Springs, co-sponsored several pieces of health care legislation during his four terms in the House.  Several of those championed policies for individuals with development and intellectual disabilities.

An attorney, Gardner is now running for the seat in Senate District 12 left vacant by Senator Bill Cadman’s departure due to term limits.  In an interview with Catherine Strode, Former Representative Gardner offers his view of the recent Supreme Court ruling on the Affordable Care Act and calls Republicans to action to create effective health care reform. Clinica Tepeyac’s View of Health Disparities and Care for Immigrants

An Interview with Catherine Strode

Jim García founded Clinica Tepeyac 23 years ago.  A community-based health center, it provides primary and behavioral health care, and health education to Metro Denver’s medically underserved, predominantly Latino population.  Many patients are undocumented.  Now the Executive Director of Clinica Tepeyac, Jim says capacity has grown to handle 20,000 patient visits annually. In an interview with Catherine Strode, he discussed how he separates the issue of health care disparities with politics.

DOI Commissioner Calls Exchange Leadership ‘Strong’ and Predicts Good Future

Colorado’s Insurance Commissioner, Marguerite Salazar, wants state residents to know where they can go for greater understanding of the benefits offered in insurance policies, and, where to file complaints when they are not satisfied with an insurance company’s practices.  She says the Division of Insurance relies on consumers to know when something within an insurance company isn’t working for the consumer’s benefit.In this interview with Advocacy Denver’s Policy Outreach Specialist Catherine Strode, Commissioner Salazar also discussed the future of Colorado’s Health Exchange, predicting more financial viability in the years ahead.
